Sealed with a Kiss
PRIYANKA & JASJIT
Dec 2018 | Dubai, UAE
Jasjit, the elder brother of one of our most favourite brides, Gunita, was infamous for his antics of not meeting anyone the second time. Priyanka, on the other hand, wondered what he thought of himself. When a common friend set them up on a blind date, both of them thought they would be out in half an hour. What began as a casual chit-chat soon turned into a six-hour long conversation that didn’t feel long enough. As they exchanged goodbyes that night, Jasjit told her, “Priyanka, I’d really like to see you again”. She smiled to herself as she thought, “Oh well! Alright, sure!”
One date soon paved way for countless others and Jasjit decided to propose to his lady love while they were vacationing in Santorini, Greece. She, of course, said yes. They celebrated the beginning of their 'happily ever-after' against the breathtaking backdrop of the Dubai skyline. Having known Jasjit’s family for more than six years now, we loved being a part of this three-day ride of emotions, festivities and contagious laughter as we were weaving each precious memory through our lenses.
The Pre-Wedding Shoot
London played the perfect fall-coloured host for our beautiful couple in love. Priyanka and Jasjit had both spent the golden years of their student lives in the city, and there was no second choice when it came to deciding the location for their shoot. The day was rainy and cold and as Priyanka braved the biting breeze, Jasjit stole moments away from the camera to shield her with his jacket and ran errands of hot coffee cups at every break. In fact, as Priyanka laughingly admitted, this was the very first time she had seen the overprotective, softer side of him. Their behind-the-scenes chemistry translated into an onscreen gamut of colour and warmth in striking contrast to the frozen locales of their pre-wedding shoot.
The Sangeet
The wedding kickstarted with a power packed Sangeet in the grand ballroom of The Le Meridien Hotel, Dubai. Elements like hanging shimmer from the ceiling along with glittering masquerades added the perfect touch of bling to the event.
Priyanka spiked up the glamour quotient with a pastel hued Manish Malhotra lehenga while Jasjit opted for a black bejewelled sherwani from the same designer. The energy of the families was palpable. The engagement ceremony and family dances were followed by a stellar performance by Guru Randhawa who worked his charm on the star-struck audience.
Priyanka went on to share a very interesting story behind why they wanted to have Guru Randhawa for their wedding and no one else – when the two had just started dating, Jasjit had sent her a video from his cousin’s wedding where he had made a special request to Guru to sing Priyanka’s favourite song, ‘tenu suit suit karda’. When it came to their wedding, the choice was already made – it had to be Guru.
The Mehendi
The vibrant Mehendi Brunch at The Oberoi Hotel, Dubai was dominated by gorgeous hues of summer – lemony yellows, coral pink & kelly greens. Tassels and pink flamingoes stood out in the Dubai sun as a beautiful floral swing occupied centre stage. Complementing the theme perfectly were the couple’s summery outfits which they picked up from Abujani & Sandeep Khosla and Strange Shrew respectively.
Jasjit’s Haldi & Priyanka’s Chooda Ceremony
Both these close-knit ceremonies had only their families and close friends in attendance. This was going to be a huge wedding and before the hectic action began, Priyanka was very keen on hosting the smaller functions at home – a place where she felt most comfortable and where her pets could be at ease.
She was strongly attached to both her dogs with whom she had shared the past 13 years. The event management team ‘Vivaah’ did a great job in transforming her backyard into a cosy and beautifully lit space, complete with hanging kaleeras.
The Baraat
Jasjit wore a beautifully embroidered off-white Sabyasachi sherwani, complete with pastel blue details. A lively, action packed Baraat followed the Sehrabandhi ceremony by his gorgeous sisters – all donning lovely pastel shades in the Dubai weather.
Priyanka’s Dressup
Taking the summer hues of the wedding a notch higher, Priyanka chose to wear a beautifully coordinated pastel blue Sabyasachi lehenga along with complementing ornate jewellery from the same designer.
By this time we all knew Priyanka was extremely punctual. It was a delight for all of us when she was ready well before time for her wedding ceremony – giving us that much needed half an hour for some stunning bridal and family portraits.
The Wedding Ceremony
Priyanka & Jasjit decided to have two ceremonies to celebrate each of their cultures. We saw two beautiful nuptials that day - one Sikh and the other Hindu - at the Waldorf Astoria, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai.
With a wedding stage constructed at the helipad against the scenic beach as the backdrop, the sheer fabrics of the decor danced in the cool sea breeze creating a beautiful setting for the two ceremonies that led day into night.
The only thing that the couple wanted was a beachside wedding. So the Vivaah Weddings along with Timeless Events made sure these ceremonies took place at one of the most gorgeous locations in Dubai!
The serene Anand Karaj (Sikh nupitals) concluded with the overjoyed, teary eyed families congratulating each other. An hour later, Priyanka made a fun entry with her own Baraat, followed by an exuberant Varmala and the seven pheras at dusk.
The Reception
‘The Garden of Eden’ themed Reception was held in the Al Joud Ballroom of the Hilton Habtoor City. A beautiful indoor garden complete with a floral ceiling, lush green foliage and sparkling glass chandeliers looked nothing short of a walk through heaven.
While blooming flowers and crystals adorned the venue, The ‘Vogue’ Glass Photo booth added an element of quirk to the decor. Priyanka looked resplendent in her Falguni Shane Peacock gown while Jasjit opted for a neat suited look from ‘The Line’ by Shamim Khan.
Everyone erupted in applause when the groom decided to show off his Johny Bravo shirt! As for her, she wasn’t surprised, “With him, you can always expect the unexpected – also, Johny Bravo is his alter ego so its as if the shirt chose him!”
