TOO MANY COOKS SPOIL THE BROTH
Do you actually need 12-15 photographers for your wedding? Can your wedding be beautifully shot by a crew of just 4-5 people? Think about this before you hire your photographer because the quantity doesn’t necessarily guarantee quality.
I generally recommend a crew strength of 8-9 people (3-4 cinematographers and 2-3 photographers) and over a period of ten years’ experience I have come to conclude that this is enough but there are exceptions.
Sometimes I have been asked by people if 8-9 people will be enough to cover a wedding and at other times, people have expressed surprise that I would need as many as 8-9 people to cover a simple wedding. I know of families who have hired two teams, each getting a crew of 10-12 people - That’s an absurd total of 20-25 photographers. This is just insane. Apart from the showoff paparazzi value, this creates filming chaos and I have seen numerous such avoidable incidents where the two teams have clashed on who gets to stand where and this has led to an overall reduction in the quality of the footage.
Alternately I know of families that have hired a team of just 4-5 talented, well co-ordinated, intelligent people who have created magic with their art. Too few can feel a bit risky but too many cooks definitely spoil the broth.
